My name is Willem, and I have always liked listening to and making music. I started taking piano lessons when I was 8. I didn’t enjoy the lessons though; my mother wanted me to learn to play an instrument.

I had two piano teachers. The second one was a well known jazz pianist and he taught me a number of invaluable lessons that I was later able to transfer to the guitar.

I picked up my brother’s classical acoustic guitar when I was 13, and that was it. I was sold. I think I played it several hours a day for the next 4 or 5 years, then slowed down a bit after that. In the end I got pretty good, and I have been trying to improve as a player ever since.
